This shell coaster pattern has been a favorite since 2001 when I designed it. This coaster is great for those BIG Coffee mugs that just don’t fit on anything else!

Materials:

Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn

Size H Hook (5.0 mm)

Directions:

Ch 6, join to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as a dc on this rnd and following rnds), 15 dc in ring; join with sl st in 3 rd ch of beg ch 3. (16 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2 sp), dc in same sp as join; *sk next dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next dc; repeat from * around; join with sl st in 3 rd ch of beg ch 5. (8 ch-2 sp)

Rnd 3 : Sl st in nect ch 2 sp, ch 3, in same sp work (dc, ch 3, 2 dc); in each remaining ch-2 sp work (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc); join with sl st in 3 rd ch of beg ch 3.

Rnd 4: Sl st in next dc and in next ch-3 sp; ch 3, work 6 dc in same ch 3 sp; work 7 dc in each remaining ch-3 sp around. Join with sl st in 3 rd ch of beg ch 3. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
